Goffstown and the surrounding areas have long enjoyed a vibrant, creative community nestled in historic southern New Hampshire. Back in 1999, the Main Street Program established a charter in Goffstown and a natural, cooperative union was formed between the new Goffstown Main Street Program and the Goffstown Art community (which became known as the Art Team) during those early years.

Through Main Street events, the Art Team has taken an active role to foster and promote the arts in town... the Art Show-Off, Art on the Walls, the Open Studio Tour, and finally, Uncommon Art.

From the first Art Show-Off during Pumpkin Regatta weekend, the exhibition has evolved. The Art Show-Off was initially a community-wide art exhibit which had taken place at Town Hall - all ages and abilities were welcome to take part. It was eventually seen to be a great opportunity to "show-off" and encourage the talent in our local schools; the show shifted its focus to exhibit work from our young artists. The show and the enthusiasm around it have grown tremendously. Much gratitude goes to all the early ed teachers and art teachers in our local schools, and the local home school parents for making this a great success.

Art on the Walls has been around for several years; it creates a unique opportunity for both business owners and artists alike. This program takes place three times/year with mutual benefit to both. Businesses select pieces submitted by local artists to be hung in their offices, waiting areas, dining rooms, etc. Businesses enjoy a consistent change in their working environment by the infusion of fresh art pieces... like a face-lift of sorts. Artists enjoy the exposure of their work to people who may otherwise not see their art... sometimes these result in sales for the artists. We truly appreciate the businesses and artists who participate in this endeavor and would love to see more artists and Goffstown businesses give it a try.

Finally, in 2009, the annual Goffstown Open Studio Tour became our premier event, Uncommon Art on the Common, which allows more artists from a greater area to participate. The concentration of exhibitors to the Common and along Main Street provides greater ease for our visitors to be able to experience a broad range of creative endeavors, as well as explore our great local eateries and shops. Since our beginning, Uncommon Art has grown and become a much-loved summer tradition in the Village. We enjoy a mix of perennial favorite artists and makers, as well as talented newcomers. Not enough can be said for all the incredible people who make this possible every year. THANK YOU!!
